6 Steps To Profitable Websites

by Mark Thompson

In order to build a profitable website for yourself you need to have a good plan in place as well as you carrying out lots of preparation first. A lot of people will come up with an idea for a website, they then buy a domain name and start to build the site without actually thinking through what is required. Like these people I use to have hundreds of websites and would never concentrate on one but would instead be moving from one to the next constantly. However now I concentrate on just 20 sites or less and because of this I have seen a dramatic increase in my income from them.

There are 6 steps you should take to ensure that you create websites that are profitable. Stick to this formula and you’ll rapidly increase you income. Before you even think about building a site get yourself a ring binder and some paper you should create a section for each site you want to create. You could do this on a PC but trust me on this you’ll use it much more if it’s in a folder next to you PC.

Step one is the Keyword Research stage. Here you need to think all about the niche and what logical sections you will have. A niche can just about any topic you can think of, you’ll also find than many niches will have profitable sub niches which you should also explore. For example Cars would be a good niche but SUV’s would be a sub niche and carburretors would be another tight sub niche. The main thing with keyword research is to find a good mixture of keywords some of which have very little competition and others that will challenge your promotional skills.

Planning is the second stage, many people completely miss this stage out don’t! Grab a piece of paper from your file and sketch out the different areas of your site. Work out how you want it to look and if you want to add subdirectories or have each section on the same site. By sketching things out and keeping a record you can go back later and see which site models work well for you and which don’t.

In the next step you will want to actually start to build your site. Remember we have just finished the planning stage and it was during this time that you made a decision as to what tool you would be using to build your site with. As you know there are building of site building tools now available, some you can get for nothing and others that are going to cost you a few hundred dollars. However for those of you that are just starting out I would suggest that you use WordPress. This site building tool is not only free but can be easily installed from many of the other websites Cpanel.

One of the biggest mistakes made by many people is when it comes to promoting their site after they have built it. What they will often do is just promote their site enough so that it gets indexed into various different search engines before they become bored with it and move on to the next project. STOP! Any promotion you do for any of your sites should be an ongoing task. The best thing you can do is spend a hour each day for at least the next two weeks on promoting your site.

A site will only survive if it receives traffic. The traffic it receives will come from a number of different sources. But in order for the traffic to know about the site you need to promote it properly. The more properly a site is promoted the more chances are that you will start to receive traffic from search engines. This kind of organic search traffic is completely free and is what any good website owner should be striving to achieve.

Monetization is the objective for most webmasters if they want to earn an income from their sites. The trouble is most of them monetizing the sites too early. I’ll often leave it 3 months before I monetize a site. There is no point in adding Adsense to your site immediately as it may affect the ranking of your site and without traffic it’s not going to earn you money.

Once you can incorporate the 6 steps into your site building and learn what works well for you then you’ll have a much better chance of making each and every site you build profitable.
