Making money online is not hard at all. The only thing you need is time and patience. Of course there are advantages of having money to spend, but it is not something that is required at all.

What I do to make money online is actually as simple as this. I make a website about a subject that I think people might be interested in, I promote the website until I get decent traffic and I find a way to make money from that traffic.

The hard part is to actually promote it. To get the best results, you would have to learn something called SEO. SEO stands for search engine optimization, and is the techniques that internet marketeers use to get their sites ranked as high as they can in the search engine result pages.

Basic SEO is divided into two parts. On page and off page SEO.

A short explanation of on page SEO: Everything that we do on the page itself. What we want is for the search engines to know exactly what our site is about as soon as possible. The off page SEO involves the things that doesn’t happen on the page. Basically it boils down to one thing, backlinks. Keyword anchored backlinks to be precise. This is the single most important factor for getting a site well ranked. Get as many quality backlinks as you can, and use your keywords as the anchor text.

Sounds easy? Well, it is. In my opinion it is a lot easier than getting your traffic from social sites such as facebook, digg, stumbleupon, etc. And, it has a few advantages over those methods too. The traffic that you get from the search engines are a lot more targeted in the way that it is actually looking for sites with your subject. This makes the visitors much more likely to buy something from your site.

For any given site, there is a limit on how much traffic you can get. The limit is set by how many keywords you can rank for. When you are out of ideas on one subject, move one to another subject, create a site, optimize it and move on again. When you have enough of these sites you can lean back and collect a healthy paycheck every month.

Without doubt, the most important thing for anybody trying to do business on the internet is traffic. You must have this.

At the end of the day, this is what will make or break your business. Yes you must have a good product or service, and yes your admin must be working efficiently, but above all you must have traffic otherwise all else is in vain.

Now if your site is looking good and yet it does not attract much by way of traffic, then its time to ask why.

Traffic generation being so important, it is essential that you keep on your toes in this area. Never assume that what worked yesterday will necessarily work today, you need to be constantly alert, and aware.

1) Number one item on my list is to spend some time and money on good search engine advertising.

Google Adwords and Yahoo immediately spring to mind. They are expensive, so tread with care, but if you want to get your business up and running quickly, then this is an excellent way to do it.

They do work, and have worked well for many successful business’s. Just make sure that you learn to walk before you run, in other words, move ahead slowly at first.

2) Exchange or Trade Links with other sites

The great advantage of exchanging links is that you open the door for so much more traffic, for both of you. It is true to say that the more links you have, the more traffic you will generate.

3) Use Viral Marketing

This is a great way to spread the word around about your product. Look out for a way to attach your name to something which is currently making the rounds, and that way you can ride on the back of something bigger than you, and more well known.

4) Search and use proper keywords or keyword phrases for your sites content

Search engines look for certain keywords that they would show in their results page. In doing so, having the right keyword and keyword phrase is a high requirement in ranking in high in search engine results. You could write your own content or you could hire someone to do it for you.

5) The fifth component to getting traffic is article writing.

This is very effective for getting traffic. You write an article on your particular chosen field, and then submit it to the many article directories, making sure to add a link back to your website at the bottom of the article.

6) The next thing is to join some forums and online communities.

And start to let your name be known as someone who is an authority in your particular field. These posts are often read by hundreds, and sometimes thousands of people, and if you have something of use to say then this is an excellent way to get more traffic.

7) Last thing up is to offer newsletters.

Don’t think for one moment that these do not work, because they do. Its a great way to build up a list of people who are interested in your product or service, and who in time will buy from you.
